It should come as no surprise that Rutherford Housing Partnership's 12th Annual Gears & Gables ride has been cancelled. I trust during this challenging time you have practiced social distancing, spent time with family, maintained contact with friends and kept the pedals turning. Some of you may be facing the virus firsthand; many others are facing job or income losses. As a community, we are thinking and praying for you. We all miss the routines of our lives, but we will roll on through this...with time, patience, diligence and caring.
Over the last 11 years, Gears & Gables has raised nearly $75,000 for RHP to help families with urgent home repairs. The virus may have slowed RHP's ability to respond, but the work goes on. Currently, there are more than 100 homes on the waiting list.
CAN YOU HELP?
I challenge those of you who can to join me in my pledge of $100 to support this nonprofit's efforts to make up the difference caused by the cancellation of the ride. Or would you consider donating the $30 registration fee to help continue the work? As thanks for your donation, we will send you the three cue sheets for this year's event plus cue sheets from previous years - four spectacular routes rolling through Lake Lure, Hollis, Golden Valley, and so many other scenic areas of our county - for you to ride on your own, or load up the family or dog to take a ride. At the least, you can sit with your feet up knowing you helped someone in need.
Please consider joining with me to help Rutherford Housing Partnership to continue its mission to help complete these urgent home repairs.
