History
RHP began in 1995 when the leadership of
Yokefellow Service Center and Pisgah Legal Service acknowledged
the growing number of phone calls from Rutherford County
residents whose homes were deteriorating and needed urgent
repairs. From the beginning, the idea was to raise the money for
materials and to use volunteers for labor. As that initial group
of volunteers spent a growing number of weekends providing labor
for jobs, it became evident that expanding the body of
volunteers was needed. RHP began looking to church and civic
groups and eventually local companies for volunteer teams
willing to tackle urgently needed rehab jobs.
Since, RHP has done much to reduce substandard
housing in Rutherford County, completing an increasing number of
projects each year.
We work on projects year-round, but we aim much
of our efforts at a home repair blitz day in the spring , the
Week of Caring in the fall (co-sponsored with United Way and
held in conjunction with the National Make a Difference Day
program).
